(in Repentance)

Revelation is an unlockable passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Effects

  • Gives Isaac flight and two Soul Heart.pngSoul Hearts.
  • Continuously firing for 2.35 seconds allows Isaac to fire a powerful holy laser when the fire button is released, similar to the attacks used by the Angel bosses.
    • The laser deals Isaac's damage per tick (up to a maximum of 15 times) and can be aimed diagonally. It lasts for ~1.28 seconds (77 frames).
      • With the EnableMouseControl enabled or an analog controller, the laser can be aimed in any direction, similar to Collectible Analog Stick icon.pngAnalog Stick.
  • This item belongs to the SeraphimSeraphim set. Collecting three items from this set will transform Isaac into an angel.

Notes

  • Tear delay has no effect on the charge time of the laser; it is fixed at 2.35 seconds.
  • This item's effects will still work while Blindfolded, which makes it extremely valuable for Character Lilith icon.pngLilith and in challenges such as BRAINS! (challenge #27) or Hot Potato (challenge #42).
  • Many of Revelation's synergies are similar to Collectible Brimstone icon.pngBrimstone's.
  • Having any charged tear effects like Collectible Monstro's Lung icon.pngMonstro's Lung or Brimstone will lower their DPS if their charge time is under 2.35 seconds, in order to use Revelation's laser.

Synergies

  • Revelation, Collectible Maw Of The Void icon.pngMaw Of The Void, Collectible Number Two icon.pngNumber Two, and Collectible Montezuma's Revenge icon.pngMontezuma's Revenge all have the same charge time, allowing Isaac to easily utilize them at the same time.
  • Collectible Angelic Prism icon.pngAngelic Prism: When the laser hits the prism, it will split in four.
  • Brain WormBrain Worm: The laser can bend completely to hit an enemy, effectively acting as a better form of homing on single enemies and bosses.
  • Collectible Continuum icon.pngContinuum The laser loops around. The laser cannot hit the same enemy twice.
  • Collectible Cricket's Body icon.pngCricket's Body: Spawns 4 split tears on the first enemy or obstacle the laser hits every other tick. The tears are Piercing and deal half damage of the laser. They can hit the same enemy the laser hit.
  • Collectible Eve's Mascara icon.pngEve's Mascara / Collectible Polyphemus icon.pngPolyphemus: As the laser deals Isaac’s damage, but is not affected by tear delay, the DPS of the laser is greatly increased.
  • Homing tears: The laser will home in on enemies in a very effective way.
  • Collectible Lachryphagy icon.pngLachryphagy: The laser has reduced range, but spawns a red Lachryphagy tear per tick. The tears are Piercing and deal the damage of the laser. They can hit the same enemy the laser hit.
  • Collectible Marked icon.pngMarked: The laser is fired automatically upon reaching full charge in the direction of the mark. Combined with charged attacks, this allows them to keep their DPS.
  • Collectible Multidimensional Baby icon.pngMultidimensional Baby: The baby can duplicate the laser.
    • Multidimensional Baby + Collectible Lachryphagy icon.pngLachryphagy / Collectible Pop! icon.pngPop!: Lasers modified by Multidimensional Baby are no longer affected by Lachryphagy or Pop!, being normal length and not firing additional tears/eyes out the end.
  • Collectible The Parasite icon.pngThe Parasite: Spawns two perpendicular lasers on the first enemy or obstacle the laser hits. The laser and its split lasers cannot hit the same enemy.
  • Collectible Pop! icon.pngPop!: The laser has reduced range, but shoots out an eyeball per tick. The tears are Piercing and deal the damage of the laser. They can hit the same enemy the laser hit.
  • Collectible Proptosis icon.pngProptosis: The beam deals ~2.47× Isaac's Damage at point blank range.
  • Collectible Rubber Cement icon.pngRubber Cement: The laser will bounce off the walls for a short distance.
  • Collectible Tiny Planet icon.pngTiny Planet: The laser will wrap around Isaac once and then shoot straight forward.
  • Collectible Jacob's Ladder icon.pngJacob's Ladder: Upon hitting an enemy, wall or obstacle, the beam generates sparks that home in on enemies.

Interactions

  • Collectible Anti-Gravity icon.pngAnti-Gravity: The laser fires in place, not following Isaac.
  • Collectible Almond Milk icon.pngAlmond Milk: Unlike charged attacks, the laser cannot be fired automatically. As the laser deals Isaac’s damage, but is not affected by tear delay, the DPS of the laser is greatly decreased. The laser do not gain worm trinket effects.
  • Collectible Diplopia icon.pngDiplopia: Multiple copies of Revelation have no extra effect.
  • Collectible Explosivo icon.pngExplosivo / Collectible Mucormycosis icon.pngMucormycosis / Collectible Sinus Infection icon.pngSinus Infection: No effect.
  • Collectible Eye of the Occult icon.pngEye of the Occult: No effect.
    • Eye of the Occult + Collectible Brimstone icon.pngBrimstone/Collectible Technology icon.pngTechnology: The Revelation beam also automatically fires at the crosshair.
  • Collectible Ipecac icon.pngIpecac: The laser will poison enemies and repeatedly explode on contact with an enemy or obstacle. Despite its high damage increase, Ipecac only adds +2 damage to the beam, similarly to Collectible Brimstone icon.pngBrimstone.
  • Collectible Kidney Stone icon.pngKidney Stone: The laser can be fired as normal while the kidney stone is charging. The laser is charged and fired automatically after the kidney stone is fired.
  • Luck-based tear effects: No effect.
  • Collectible My Reflection icon.pngMy Reflection: The laser makes a thin loop in front of Isaac and then shoots straight backwards.
  • Collectible Mysterious Liquid icon.pngMysterious Liquid: The laser leaves a creep for each enemy and obstacle the laser hits per tick.
  • Collectible Playdough Cookie icon.pngPlaydough Cookie: The laser rapidly flashes between different colors while firing, with a chance to inflict status effects.
  • Collectible Soy Milk icon.pngSoy Milk: Unlike charged attacks, the laser cannot be fired automatically. As the laser deals Isaac’s damage, but is not affected by tear delay, the DPS of the laser is greatly decreased.
  • Collectible Sulfuric Acid icon.pngSulfuric Acid / Collectible Terra icon.pngTerra: The laser will occasionally break obstacles.
  • Collectible Tech X icon.pngTech X: If the Revelation beam and the Tech X are both charged, it will sometimes fire the Revelation beam first and the Tech X ring at the end of it.

Trivia

  • This item makes Isaac resemble Uriel.pngUriel and Gabriel.pngGabriel, and its ability resembles the two angels' abilities to fire a directed holy blast.
  • This item may be a reference to the Fire Emblem game series, which contains an "Angelic Robe" item that shares a similar sprite to Revelation.
  • Revelation originates from the Antibirth mod. This item is significantly different from its Antibirth counterpart, which gave stats up and a spectral Brain WormBrain Worm effect to Isaac's tears. It also gave Isaac two immortal hearts instead of soul hearts, which was a heart pickup that was never transferred to Repentance.

Bugs

Bug Bug! When combined with Collectible Chocolate Milk icon.pngChocolate Milk, Collectible Cursed Eye icon.pngCursed Eye, Collectible Monstro's Lung icon.pngMonstro's Lung, or Collectible Tech X icon.pngTech X, releasing a Revelation attack may prevent a charged shot from firing at the same time as expected. The charged shot is delayed by about ~0.5 seconds. Holding a full charge for a longer time makes the delay more likely to happen.
