Dice Bag is an unlockable trinket added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Effects

  • Has a 50% chance to give Isaac a one-time use Dice item in a consumable slot when he enters a new room. The dice disappears when he leaves the room, and cannot be dropped.
    • This doesn't replace any consumables Isaac already has.

Notes

  • If Isaac leaves and re-enters a room, Dice Bag will not try to give another die when Isaac re-enters it.
  • The dice given are determined by the amount of rooms cleared, and are not actually tied to specific rooms.
  • Any die can be given to Isaac, including ones that haven't been unlocked yet.
  • Dice Bag cannot give Collectible Spindown Dice icon.pngSpindown Dice, Collectible D infinity icon.pngD infinity, Cracked DiceCracked Dice, or Dice ShardDice Shard.
  • Dropping the trinket on the ground does not remove dice until Isaac leaves the room.
    • This means that the D1 can always be used on the Dice Bag to spawn another trinket.
  • If a D4 or D100 die is used, it won't reroll your active item. This is likely because the code for the dice consumable was directly copied from the items themselves, and because the D4 and D100 doesn't reroll your active item (themselves), neither can the dice consumables.

Strategy

  • Be cautious when carrying cards and/or pills. The die given by Dice Bag will always be first in the consumable queue, so one unaware press of the "use consumable" button can lead to Isaac's build getting fully rerolled.
  • Cards, pills, and runes/soul stones can be held until Dice Bag gives a D1 to get a chance at an extra copy of them.
  • Cards/items that can spawn items when used (such as XX - JudgementXX - Judgement or Collectible Mystery Gift icon.pngMystery Gift) can be held until Dice Bag gives an (Eternal) D6 to reroll the items they give before the die goes away.

Synergies

  • Collectible Book of Virtues icon.pngBook of Virtues: Creates wisps as if the equivalent active item was used.
  • Collectible Glowing Hourglass icon.pngGlowing Hourglass: The die given in the room Isaac used Glowing Hourglass in will be granted in the next new room Isaac visits, regardless of what it is. This can be strategically used to get a D6 or Eternal D6 at the optimal moment.
  • Dice BagDice Bag / Golden Trinket Golden Trinket / Collectible Mom's Box icon.pngMom's Box: The chance to get a die increases to 100%.
  • Collectible Moving Box icon.pngMoving Box: Can be used to hold undesirable items and pickups until Dice Bag grants a consumable that can reroll them.

Trivia

  • When Dice Bag gives Isaac a die, it can actually be seen in the list of items in the Pause menu, meaning that Dice Bag grants items, not consumables.
  • This trinket resembles a bag from Crown Royal, a popular brand of liquor that comes in a purple sack. In real life, these bags are commonly used as dice bags due to their availability.
  • This item is most likely based on the Dice Bag item from the mod Fiend Folio. It would give Isaac a Glass Dice every 8 rooms, a single-use consumable that gives Isaac the effects of a dice item.

Bugs

Bug Bug! Character Jacob and Esau icon.pngJacob and Esau: Regardless of who is holding the die, it is activated by pressing the consumable key. If Esau is holding an active item, it will be used at the same time as the die. Possibly unintended behavior.
