This article is about Rubber Cement, similar in appearance to Ipecac.

Rubber Cement is an unlockable passive item.

Effects

  • Makes tears bounce off walls, enemies and environmental objects.
    • Tears that bounce off of enemies bounce in random directions, whereas tears that bounce off of walls and other objects bounce directly back.
    • When tears bounce from enemies, they become able to hit the same enemy again should they bounce off of another enemy or obstacle.
    • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Tears bounce off bombs and are unable to push them, making Troll Bomb.pngTroll Bombs more difficult to deal with.

Notes

  • Tears will bounce off of walls while fighting (in Repentance and Repentance+) Boss The Beast ingame.pngThe Beast, despite the lack of visible walls.

Synergies

  • (except in Rebirth) BrimstoneBrimstone: The blood laser bounces off of walls, creating a second beam that deals half damage.
    • (except in Rebirth) Character Azazel icon.pngAzazel's Brimstone laser becomes a full length laser after bouncing, but will deal half of the damage.
      • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Character Azazel icon.pngAzazel's Brimstone no longer becomes a full length laser after bouncing, and instead bounce as a regular mini-Brimstone.
  • A Lump of CoalA Lump of Coal: Both effects stack, with tears that bounce off of enemies being able to hit others for more damage.
  • The ParasiteThe Parasite: Tears will bounce off of walls without splitting, but split and bounce when hitting enemies. The split tears and the original one will bounce off everything.
  • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Pop!Pop!: Significantly increases the uptime of tears, since they are not limited by range and each tear will bounce off of each other. Continuously firing tears will eventually create a positive feedback loop, as the tears will keep bouncing faster and faster while not dropping to the floor.
    • Pop! + A Lump of CoalA Lump of Coal: Extremely powerful combination; Lump of Coal's tear size increase will make it much easier for tears to bounce off of each other, while they increase in damage very rapidly. Given some time and enough tears, this can kill even final bosses such as (except in Rebirth) Boss Hush ingame.pngHush and (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Boss Delirium ingame.pngDelirium quickly.
  • (except in Rebirth) TechnologyTechnology / Technology 2Technology 2 / Tech.5Tech.5: Laser bounces off walls, creating a second beam that does half damage.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Tech XTech X: The laser rings bounce off walls.

Interactions

  • (in Rebirth) BrimstoneBrimstone: Overrides Rubber Cement.
  • Bob's Rotten HeadBob's Rotten Head: The bomb bounces back upon hitting an obstacle, and will not explode until it runs out of air time. Not recommended, as it can make self-damage more likely in small rooms.
  • (except in Rebirth) ContinuumContinuum: Overridden by Rubber Cement; tears will still bounce off of walls and obstacles.
  • Dr. FetusDr. Fetus: Overrides Rubber Cement.
  • Epic FetusEpic Fetus: Overrides Rubber Cement.
  • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Character The Forgotten icon.pngThe Forgotten: No effect on the skeleton form's attacks.
  • Homing tears: Tears will bounce off enemies and home back in, but to deal damage to that enemy again they must bounce off a different object.
  • IpecacIpecac: Tears will bounce off of obstacles, but not enemies.
  • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Jacob's LadderJacob's Ladder: Tears don't generate arcs when hitting obstacles.

  • Mom's KnifeMom's Knife: Overrides Rubber Cement.
  • Piercing tears: Tears that don't destroy enemies will bounce off of them instead of going straight through them. Tears can still damage enemies such as Knight.pngKnights that are normally invulnerable from the front.
    • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Tears regain the ability to push bombs.
  • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Sinus InfectionSinus Infection: Boogers stick to enemies, but otherwise they bounce normally.
  • Spectral tears: Overridden by Rubber Cement.

  • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Sulfuric AcidSulfuric Acid: Overridden by Rubber Cement.
