Eden's Blessing is an unlockable passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth.

Effects

  • +0.7 tears up.
  • Grants a random item at the start of the next run.

Notes

  • Quest items, such as Collectible Key Piece 1 icon.pngKey Piece 1, Collectible Key Piece 2 icon.pngKey Piece 2, (in Afterbirth † and Repentance)Collectible Broken Shovel 1 icon.pngBroken Shovel, (in Afterbirth † and Repentance)Collectible Broken Shovel 2 icon.pngBroken Shovel, (in Afterbirth † and Repentance)Collectible Mom's Shovel icon.pngMom's Shovel, (in Repentance)Collectible Knife Piece 1 icon.pngKnife Piece 1, (in Repentance)Collectible Knife Piece 2 icon.pngKnife Piece 2, and (in Repentance)Collectible Dogma icon.pngDogma cannot be granted.
  • The effect still occurs whether the run was successful or not, even if the run was restarted.
  • The effect does not work if Eden's Blessing was obtained on a seeded run, during a Victory Lap, a RERUN, or during a challenge.
    • Likewise, Eden's Blessing will not grant a free item at the start of a challenge or RERUN, instead granting the free item on the next valid run started.
      • Interestingly, seeded runs will still gain the benefit of banked Eden's Blessings, without depleting them. This means that it is possible to play an infinite amount of seeded runs, and they all start with a free item until a normal run is started.
  • Even if Eden's Blessing is re-rolled, such as with the Collectible D4 icon.pngD4 or Collectible D100 icon.pngD100, a random item will still be granted at the start of the next run.
    • Picking up Eden's Blessing and then using Collectible Glowing Hourglass icon.pngGlowing Hourglass to pick it up again will not reward more than one extra item on the next run.
    • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Absorbing Eden's Blessing with Collectible Void icon.pngVoid will not grant an extra item in the next run.
    • (in Repentance) Removing Eden's Blessing as Character Tainted Isaac icon.pngTainted Isaac will still grant an extra item in the next run.
    • (in Repentance) Obtaining Eden's Blessing temporarily by using (in Repentance)Soul of Jacob and EsauSoul of Jacob and Esau will grant an extra item in the next run.
  • Eden's Blessing can choose itself as the free item you gain, but will not give you an item on your next run.
  • If more than one Eden's Blessing is acquired in a single run, that quantity of random items will be granted at the start of the next run, although it's capped at ten items.
    • It is possible to obtain multiple copies of an item at once this way.
  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) If Eden's Blessing effect is obtained through Collectible Metronome icon.pngMetronome, no extra item will be given.
  • (in Repentance) If gained from Collectible Lemegeton icon.pngLemegeton, it will not grant an item next run.
  • (in Repentance) Taking Eden's Blessing and then starting a run as Character Jacob and Esau icon.pngJacob and Esau will only give item(s) to Jacob.
  • (in Repentance) As Character Tainted Lazarus icon.pngTainted Lazarus, the item will be given to his alive form.
    • If Character Tainted Lazarus icon.pngTainted Lazarus somehow acquires the item before flipping for the first time of the run, Eden's Blessing will be consumed upon flip and a random item will be granted to Character Dead Tainted Lazarus icon.pngDead Tainted Lazarus.
  • (in Repentance) Using Collectible R Key icon.pngR Key or Collectible Genesis icon.pngGenesis will not consume Eden's Blessing.
  • (in Repentance) If Collectible Strawman icon.pngStrawman picks up Eden's Blessing, the item will be granted on the next run whether Strawman Keeper survives or not.
  • (in Repentance)XVII - The Stars?XVII - The Stars? can't remove the item(s) given by Eden's Blessing and using it will consume the first item(s) acquired after them or do nothing if there are no other items.
  • (in Repentance)XVII - The Stars?XVII - The Stars? can remove Eden's Blessing and the item will be granted in the next game.
  • Items that grant pickups upon picking up won't grant pickups (e.g.: Collectible A Dollar icon.pngA Dollar won't make Isaac start with 99 coins)

Interactions

  • (except in Repentance)Collectible Glowing Hourglass icon.pngGlowing Hourglass: If Isaac starts with this item and immediately uses it in the starting room, the room will be reset, and all starting items and trinkets removed.
    • (in Repentance) Instead of the starting room being reset, Isaac is taken to the starting room of HomeHome. If used again in this room without having entered any other rooms, the room will be reset, and all starting items and trinkets removed except Glowing Hourglass.

In-game Footage

Trivia

  • The white eyes given to Isaac by Eden's Blessing first appear during ending 1, when Isaac falls into the chest and transforms into Character Eden icon.pngEden.
  • This is the only item with an effect that applies on a future run.

Bugs

Bug Bug! (in Rebirth and Afterbirth) A bug may occur when the item is picked up, and Collectible Glowing Hourglass icon.pngGlowing Hourglass is used with either ? Card? Card or Collectible The Battery icon.pngThe Battery to reverse time, out of the room, restoring your ability to get out using either of the two items and the Collectible Eden's Blessing icon.pngEden's Blessing pickup. This will allow you to generate an endless amount of Collectible Eden's Blessing icon.pngEden's Blessings, which will all carry over to your next run, and may be repeated endlessly.
Bug Bug! (in Repentance) If Collectible Clicker icon.pngClicker turns the player into Character Jacob and Esau icon.pngJacob and Esau after collecting Collectible Eden's Blessing icon.pngEden's Blessing, any items that would have been normally gained at the beginning of the next run are instead given to Character Jacob and Esau icon.pngJacob and Esau.
Bug Bug! If the game crashes on the floor where you have taken Eden's Blessing (like during a breaking run), that counts as +1 item for the next run. If you continue the saved game and you take Eden's Blessing again, you gain an additional +1 item for that run. This process can grant you unlimited items for the next run.
  • From the bugs listed above, one can potentially "soft-lock" the game by overflowing the number of items one gets. This repeats and crashes until it fully loads, which may take several attempts to load. Anywhere over 1000 Eden's Blessings will have an increased chance to permanently soft-lock the game; therefore, these bugs are highly unadvised to abuse.
    • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Up to 10 Eden's Blessing items will be given per run. Any remaining Blessings will continue to be given each run until you have no more left.
    • (in Repentance) Free items gained from Eden's Blessing do not carry over to subsequent runs and are capped at 10 free items for only the next run.
