(except in Rebirth)

Incubus is an unlockable passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth.

Effects

  • Spawns a demonic familiar that copies Isaac's tears with reduced size (or width for some special attack).
    • (except in Repentance and Repentance+) Incubus' tears ignores Isaac's range and shot speed.
    • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Incubus' damage is reduced by 25% when playing as characters other than Character Lilith icon.pngLilith and Character Tainted Lilith icon.pngTainted Lilith.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) This item belongs to the ConjoinedConjoined set. Collecting three items from this set will transform Isaac into a three-faced version of himself.

Notes

  • Lilith's starting Incubus is technically not a collected item but an intrinsic part of the character, and is removed if an item such as Collectible Ankh icon.pngAnkh or (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth)Collectible Clicker icon.pngClicker are used to become a different character. As such, playing as Lilith will not add Incubus to the collection page, nor does her personal Incubus count towards the ConjoinedConjoined transformation.
  • Incubus is one of the familiars that can be spawned by Collectible Cambion Conception icon.pngCambion Conception. Receiving one in this way does not count towards Conjoined, however.
  • (except in Repentance+) Incubus has the second-highest priority of following familiars, only being below Collectible King Baby icon.pngKing Baby's priority.

Synergies

  • (except in Repentance and Repentance+) Character Azazel icon.pngAzazel / Collectible Brimstone icon.pngBrimstone: Fires a full length Brimstone laser that can be charged while still firing the previous laser, allowing it to fire more rapidly than normal.
    • The laser fired by Incubus has the same width as Collectible Lil Brimstone icon.pngLil Brimstone's.
    • (in Repentance and Repentance+) When playing as Character Azazel icon.pngAzazel, Incubus' Brimstone laser has the same range as him.
    • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Multiple copies of Collectible Brimstone icon.pngBrimstone will not grant Incubus the mega brimstone effect.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Collectible Berserk! icon.pngBerserk! / Character The Forgotten icon.pngThe Forgotten / Collectible Spirit Sword icon.pngSpirit Sword: Incubus will carry the respective melee weapon, using it exactly like Isaac.
  • (in Afterbirth †)Collectible Cursed Eye icon.pngCursed Eye: A burst of 3 tears is fired at the regular tear delay without needing to charge.
    • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Incubus now charges and fires a burst of up to 5 tears just as Isaac would.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+)Forgotten LullabyForgotten Lullaby: Doubles fire rate of Incubus. This notably makes it fire and charge attack faster than Isaac does.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+)Collectible Immaculate Heart icon.pngImmaculate Heart: Incubus can create its own orbiting tears, which will orbit the Incubus that created it, and not Isaac.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+)Collectible Technology 2 icon.pngTechnology 2: Incubus can fire the Technology 2 laser too.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+)Collectible Tractor Beam icon.pngTractor Beam: The Incubus tears will follow the beam. This makes it seem as if the tears come directly from Isaac, even if blindfolded.
    • (except in Repentance and Repentance+)Tractor Beam + Collectible Monstro's Lung icon.pngMonstro's Lung: Also allows the Incubus tears to follow the beam.

Interactions

No effect on Incubus:

Only stat effects are applied; otherwise no effect on Incubus:

Other interactions:

  • (except in Repentance and Repentance+) Collectible Dead Eye icon.pngDead Eye: Only Isaac's tears affect the damage multiplier.
  • Collectible Dr. Fetus icon.pngDr. Fetus: A dangerous combination, since familiars naturally stay behind the character, and the character's movement may block the bomb, which causes self-damage easily.
  • (in Afterbirth †) Character The Forgotten icon.pngThe Forgotten: Fires bone tears like Collectible Compound Fracture icon.pngCompound Fracture without the splitting effect. Reverts to normal tears when switching to Character The Soul (Character) icon.pngThe Soul.
  • (in Afterbirth †)Collectible Flat Stone icon.pngFlat Stone: The effective range of Incubus' tears is roughly doubled, with a single bounce in the middle of the flight.
  • Collectible Guillotine icon.pngGuillotine: Incubus will fire tears in relative position to its body depending on where Isaac's head is currently.
  • (except in Repentance and Repentance+) Collectible Isaac's Tears icon.pngIsaac's Tears: The item is recharged by Isaac's tears, not Incubus'. This item works with Character Lilith icon.pngLilith.
    • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Incubus' tears contribute to the item charge.
  • Collectible Kidney Stone icon.pngKidney Stone: Incubus ignores the range down from this item, and will fire the tear barrage but not the stone.
    • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Incubus is still able to fire tears while Kidney Stone is charging.
  • (except in Repentance and Repentance+)Collectible The Ludovico Technique icon.pngThe Ludovico Technique: Incubus' tears become piercing and spectral but otherwise fires normal tears.
  • (except in Repentance and Repentance+)Collectible My Reflection icon.pngMy Reflection: Since Incubus ignores shot speed the tears turn back very quickly, greatly reducing effective range.
  • (except in Repentance and Repentance+)Collectible Tech X icon.pngTech X: Incubus shoots small, fixed-size Tech X laser rings, with a very slightly longer minimum charge than Isaac.

Trivia

  • In folklore, incubi are evil spirits said to descend upon sleeping people, specifically ones fabled to have sexual intercourse with women during their sleep, or, more simply put, the male version of a succubus.
