Curse of the Tower is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth.

Effect

Notes

  • Despite appearing as Troll Bombs, the bombs are mechanically identical to player-placed bombs and will benefit from Isaac's bomb-enhancing items.
  • These bombs hurt the player as well as enemies.
  • Taking damage from the Troll Bombs spawned by Curse of the Tower or any other type of bomb, including Isaac's bombs, will not re-activate the effect.
  • (except in Repentance) Picking up this item will make all health transactions more difficult. Devil Beggar.pngDevil Beggars and Blood Donation Machine.pngBlood Donation Machines will be almost impossible to use because they will very likely be destroyed by bombs.
  • The bombs prefer to spawn near the center of the room.
  • The 6 Troll Bomb.pngTroll Bombs are difficult to dodge in small rooms.

Synergies

  • Blasting CapBlasting Cap: Spawned Troll Bombs can drop extra bomb pickups.
  • Collectible Glitter Bombs icon.pngGlitter Bombs: Each troll bomb has a chance to spawn a pickup or a trinket including hearts for repeated use.
  • Collectible The Polaroid icon.pngThe Polaroid: If Isaac is damaged when he has half a Red Heart.pngRed Heart or less, the shield will activate and protect him from the Troll Bombs.
  • Collectible Pyromaniac icon.pngPyromaniac: Troll Bombs will heal Isaac instead, allowing for essentially infinite health with proper usage.
    • (in Repentance) Due to Pyromaniac being weakened to healing half a heart per explosion in Repentance, this synergy requires Collectible The Wafer icon.pngThe Wafer to continue being effective past Chapter 3/Chapter 3.5.
  • Collectible Remote Detonator icon.pngRemote Detonator: The Troll Bombs generated will not explode until Remote Detonator is activated, unlike regular Troll Bombs.
  • Safety ScissorsSafety Scissors: The Troll Bombs generated will be converted into bomb pickups rather than exploding.

Interactions

  • Blind RageBlind Rage: Normally, the invincibility frames will end before most of the explosions take place. However, if Isaac takes a full heart of damage (e. g. from a champion), the invincibility will protect him from all spawned Troll Bombs.
    • Damage sources that scale up from half a heart of damage to a full heart of damage starting on Chapter 4 don't provide enough invincibility frames to ignore the explosions.
  • (in Repentance)Collectible Blood Oath icon.pngBlood Oath: Not recommended. Spawns 6 Troll Bombs for each Half Red Heart.pngHalf Red Heart removed, making death highly likely if Isaac does not leave the room immediately after being stabbed by Blood Oath, and leaving the starting room unsafe.
  • (in Repentance)Collectible Sharp Plug icon.pngSharp Plug: Not recommended. Spawns 6 Troll Bombs for each Half Red Heart.pngHalf Red Heart removed, making extra damage highly likely if Isaac does not leave the room immediately after using Sharp Plug.
  • Collectible Bomber Boy icon.pngBomber Boy: Not recommended. The cross pattern explosion makes it very hard to avoid taking damage.
  • Collectible Mr. Mega icon.pngMr. Mega: No effect.
  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance)Collectible Scatter Bombs icon.pngScatter Bombs: Not recommended. Each Troll Bomb will spawn several smaller bombs upon exploding, making it very hard to avoid taking damage.
    • (in Repentance) No visual change can be seen with the Troll Bombs, but the smaller bombs have the sprite of the smaller normal bombs.
