This article is about the item. For a similar looking item, see The Pinking Shears. For the trinket, see Safety Scissors.

Scissors is an unlockable activated item.

Effects

  • Detaches Isaac's head from his body and turns the head into a stationary familiar that fires tears for the current room.
    • The player still controls Isaac's headless body, which also shoots tears.
      • (in Repentance) The body constantly spews a controllable fountain of blood shots, dealing about 0.66x-1.01x damage.
        • The blood fountain can be aimed in any direction like Collectible Analog Stick icon.pngAnalog Stick.
    • (except in Repentance) The tears fired by the head do not scale with Isaac's damage and always do 3.5 damage.
      • (in Repentance) The head's tears are affected by Isaac's stats and attack modifiers.

Notes

  • Can spawn multiple heads if used in the same room more than once.
    • (in Repentance) Only the most recent head is able to fire.
  • (except in Repentance) Collectible Brimstone icon.pngBrimstone and Collectible Technology icon.pngTechnology are not fired from the stationary head.
  • If Isaac has an invisible body due to the cosmetic effect of Collectible Transcendence icon.pngTranscendence, only a shadow will be seen after using the Scissors.
  • (except in Repentance) If Isaac is Blindfolded, the floating head can still fire tears.
  • (in Repentance) The floating head does nothing as Character Lilith icon.pngLilith, Character Tainted Lilith icon.pngTainted Lilith, and Character Tainted Forgotten icon.pngTainted Forgotten.
    • As Character The Forgotten icon.pngThe Forgotten, the floating head will only fire tears when the Soul is active.
    • The floating head will not fire tears as Character Tainted Samson icon.pngTainted Samson while he is enraged.
  • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Each wave of Boss RushBoss Rush fully recharges the item, allowing many heads to be spawned.
  • Only deaths which end runs (i.e. Isaac is not revived by a revival item such as Collectible 1up! icon.png1up!) count towards unlocking the Scissors.

Synergies

  • (in Repentance)Collectible Book of Virtues icon.pngBook of Virtues: Spawns red wisps in the middle ring. The wisps fire 2-3 tears at a time, which are inaccurate, travel in an arc, and have variable range.
  • (in Repentance) Collectible Epic Fetus icon.pngEpic Fetus / Collectible Marked icon.pngMarked: Blood fountain from the body will aim at the crosshair.
  • (in Repentance)Collectible The Ludovico Technique icon.pngThe Ludovico Technique: Blood fountain from the body will aim at the controlled tear.

Interactions

  • Collectible The Pinking Shears icon.pngThe Pinking Shears: If Scissors and Pinking Shears are used together, control is given back to an invisible head with only a shadow visible as both the head and body are mobilized to attack.
  • Collectible BFFS! icon.pngBFFS!: The loose head won't become larger, but will deal double damage.
  • (except in Rebirth)Collectible Box of Friends icon.pngBox of Friends: No effect.
  • (except in Rebirth)Collectible Car Battery icon.pngCar Battery: No effect.

Trivia

  • This item is very likely a reference to the English idiom "running with scissors", which means to "willfully act in a reckless, foolish, and/or dangerous manner", alluding to the literal act of running with a pair of scissors in one's hand, which can cause severe injury, thus the item's effect and unlock condition.
  • In original flash version of The Binding of Isaac, dying 100 times unlocked Collectible The Pinking Shears icon.pngThe Pinking Shears.
