E. Coli

E. Coli is a passive item.

Effects

Enemies that touch Isaac are transformed into Poop.
All brown Poops, including those created by E.Coli, now have a 6.25% chance to drop a heart if it normally wouldn't drop anything.
This item belongs to the Oh Crap set. Collecting three items from this set will transform Isaac into a walking pile of poop.

Bosses cannot be turned into poop.
Enemies that are turned into poop do not count towards on kill effects such as health regeneration from Charm of the Vampire or the damage increase from Lusty Blood.
- This is especially detrimental for Tainted Keeper or Tainted Magdalene which depend on pickups generated on enemy kills.
Poops created by this item are not tiles, but entities. As such, they are not grid-aligned, and flash red when hit, similar to damaging monsters.
- These poops vanish if the room is left and then returned to.
- Things that automatically target enemies, such as Monstro's Tooth and II - The High Priestess, will also target the poops.
- Poops produced by E. Coli crumble upon being attacked, identically to regular poops.
Touching the middle section of a Grub with E. Coli will split it and become two heads (rather than destroying and spawning Maggots).
Mullibooms can be turned into poop without taking damage.
Turning Champion versions of a monster into poop will forfeit the chance to get the champion's drop.

Brown Cap : The generated poops explode when destroyed.
Butt Penny / Petrified Poop: Grants poops made from enemies a chance to drop pickups.
Death's List: Enemies that die by being turned into poop do not disrupt the Death's List chain and clearing a room by turning all its enemies into poop still grants Isaac the Death's List reward.
Dirty Mind: Enemies that are turned into poop generate double the normal amount of Dips.
Holy Mantle / Isaac's Heart / Invulnerability : The effect can be applied without taking contact damage.
Lodestone: If an enemy is hit by a lodestone tear perfectly simultaneously with it being turned into poop, the resulting poop will be tinted black and have a lodestone aura that sucks in enemies. This poop will return to normal after a few seconds.
Midas' Touch: Enemies touched are turned into Golden Poop.
Oh Crap: Isaac can heal by destroying poops created from enemies.
Tainted Forgotten: The body will turn enemies into poop on contact.

Bob's Brain : Bob's Brain will explode upon hitting an enemy that has been turned into poop.
Butt Penny / Petrified Poop: Poops made from enemies still do not drop pickups.
Hallowed Ground / Meconium: The poop colors are not changed.
Oh Crap: Destroying poops created from enemies do not heal Isaac.
Serpent's Kiss / The Virus: The poops won't drop Black Hearts, negating the touch effect from these items on non-bosses.

Escherichia coli is a type of intestinal bacteria present naturally in the human intestinal system. However, some harmful strains of E. Coli can cause food poisoning.
This item is used in High Brow (challenge #2) and Scat Man (challenge #36).
