(in Repentance)

Binge Eater is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Effects

  • Grants one Red Heart Container and fully heals Isaac.
  • Item pedestals cycle between the initial item and one of several food items.
  • Upon picking up an affected food item, in addition to their normal effects, Isaac gains a temporary +3.6 Damage boost (which fades over 30 seconds), a permanent boost to 2 stats depending on the food item consumed, and a permanent -0.03 speed reduction.
  • Affected food items heal 3 Red Hearts instead of 2.

Notes

  • Food items that Binge Eater affects and can cycle between, and their bonuses, include:
  • All Food items that Isaac has collected before picking up Binge Eater will provide their respective stats, including the -0.03 speed down for each item, but excluding the temporary damage up and extra healing.
  • The temporary Damage boost cannot be stacked, and picking up additional food items resets it to +3.6.
  • Has no effect on certain items that are required to progress through the game, such as Collectible The Polaroid icon.pngThe Polaroid, Collectible Knife Piece 1 icon.pngKnife Piece 1, or Collectible Dad's Note icon.pngDad's Note.
  • No bonuses are granted from other items alluded to be edible, such as Collectible MEAT! icon.pngMEAT!.
  • Removing collected food items or Binge Eater itself will also remove associated stat bonuses.
  • Because this affects items in Devil RoomDevil Rooms and all of them cost 1 Red Heart Container, Devil Deals can be used as free stat upgrades.

Interactions

  • Collectible Crooked Penny icon.pngCrooked Penny / Collectible Diplopia icon.pngDiplopia: If an item pedestal is copied while the original item is revealed, it will create an identical cycling pedestal of the same two items. If an item pedestal is copied when the food item is revealed, it will create a non-switching pedestal of the food item only.
  • Collectible Death Certificate icon.pngDeath Certificate: Has no effect on the items in the generated areas.
  • Collectible Glitched Crown icon.pngGlitched Crown: The food item is added to the end of the cycle for a total of 6 items per pedestal.
  • Collectible Sacred Orb icon.pngSacred Orb: The food item is not re-rolled.
  • Character Jacob and Esau icon.pngJacob and Esau: Items will swap between the initial item and food item as normal, but only the brother who picked up Binge Eater gets the additional stat bonuses.
  • Character Tainted Isaac icon.pngTainted Isaac / Character Isaac icon.pngIsaac's Collectible Birthright icon.pngBirthright: The food item will cycle alongside the original 2 granted by the character, resulting in a total of 3 items per pedestal.
  • Character Tainted Lazarus icon.pngTainted Lazarus: In a Devil RoomDevil Room, Tainted Lazarus is effectively able to give items to his inactive form for free by picking up a food item. This will remove one heart container, and then instantly restore it. The mirrored Devil items will remain however, meaning he can use Collectible Flip icon.pngFlip and pick them up as his alternate form for no cost.
  • Character Tainted Bethany icon.pngTainted Bethany: On pick-up, grants 12 blood charges. Increases blood charges gained from food items from 4 to 6.

Trivia

  • The costume given by this item is identical to Collectible Bucket of Lard icon.pngBucket of Lard and Collectible Belly Jelly icon.pngBelly Jelly.
  • Binge Eater's sprite consists of (clockwise, starting on the left) Collectible Dinner icon.pngDinner, Collectible Dessert icon.pngDessert, Collectible Breakfast icon.pngBreakfast, Collectible Lunch icon.pngLunch, Collectible Raw Liver icon.pngRaw Liver and Collectible Rotten Meat icon.pngRotten Meat.
    • Among these, Raw Liver is the only item Binge Eater can't cycle into.
  • The name “Binge Eater” could be a reference to the eating disorder known as “Binge Eating Disorder”, in which a person eats an unusually large amount of food in one sitting, causing distress and a feeling of lack of control.
