Dad's Note is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Effects

• Initiates the Ascent sequence.
• Any trinkets left in Treasure Rooms and Boss Rooms will turn into Cracked Keys.

How to Acquire

• Once Mother has been defeated at least once, A Strange Door will appear in the starting room of Depths II and its alts (only Necropolis and Dank Depths, as the door does not appear on Mausoleum or Gehenna). This door can only be opened if Isaac has The Polaroid, The Negative, or Faded Polaroid.
  • This can be done by beating Mom then teleporting out of the boss room to anywhere else on the floor, or, alternatively, by inheriting any of the items from a previous run. Helpfully, a tinted Skull will always appear somewhere on Depths II which, when destroyed, drops 0 - The Fool. If Isaac has Little Baggy, it will drop a Telepills.
  • Interacting with this door consumes The Polaroid, The Negative or Faded Polaroid. If multiple are available, Faded Polaroid is preferred, The Negative next, and The Polaroid last.
• The door leads to a special version of Mausoleum/Gehenna II. Instead of a boss, the boss room of this floor contains Dad's Note.

Notes

• Dad's Note cannot be rerolled or destroyed in most ways, such as with The D6, Void, Abyss, or even Spindown Dice.
• Dad's Note cannot be duplicated via Crooked Penny, even if other items in the same room would be duplicated. Other duplication items such as Diplopia work as normal.
• The boss room containing Dad's Note cannot be exited once entered, similar to the Mom boss fight. The only way to exit is through teleportation.
• The only item that can be taken in the boss room of this special version of Mausoleum/Gehenna is Dad's Note. No other items will be spawned.
  • Lemegeton pulls from the Boss Pool when used.
• Treasure Room and Shop will still generate in this special floor as in usual floors, giving Isaac more options.
• If Dad's Note is obtained outside of the special boss room via unintended means (such as using Spindown Dice on Sausage), the music will slowly fade out, but the Ascent will not start.
• Red Room doors cannot appear on the borders of the map, preventing access to the I AM ERROR room and Womb/Utero/Scarred Womb.

Trivia

• The boss room that contains Dad's Note is same boss room that would contain Mom if the player were to have entered Mausoleum/Gehenna normally (by entering the door to Mausoleum/Gehenna I in the boss room of the Depths/Necropolis/Dank Depths I or the Mines/Ashpit II). However, as Mom has already been killed in Chapter 3, the boss room reflects its completed state with blood on the floor and no exit door, which would normally be the scenario after defeating Mom.
