Panic Button is a trinket added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Effects

  • Activates Isaac's active item just before damage would be taken.
    • This still uses the item's charges, so if the item is not charged, the trinket will do nothing.
    • Single-use items will be consumed.

Notes

  • Panic Button will attempt to use the item 2-3 times per tick as damage is incoming. This may cause some unlimited use items to trigger multiple times before one damage instance.
  • Some items will be activated after respawning if Isaac is killed by the incoming damage, including Collectible Guppy's Paw icon.pngGuppy's Paw and Collectible Mega Blast icon.pngMega Blast.
  • Taking damage from explosions, enemy creep, spikes and spike rocks, Spiked Chest.pngSpiked Chest and Mimic chest Repentance.pngMimic Chest, some attack from above (for example, the stomp attacks from Boss Mom ingame.pngMom and Boss Satan ingame.pngSatan), Whipper.pngWhipper and their variants, brimstone lasers (including angel lasers), or electric lasers, will not trigger the effect as those are instantaneous.
  • Self-damage sources also won't trigger the trinket. This includes items, machines, and damaging doors.
  • Does not activate items in a consumable slot (such as Character Tainted Bethany icon.pngTainted Bethany's Collectible Lemegeton icon.pngLemegeton or dice items granted by Dice BagDice Bag).
  • Will activate when touching Dark Esau.pngDark Esau while playing as Character Tainted Jacob icon.pngTainted Jacob, despite Dark Esau not technically dealing damage.
    • This effect still occurs even whilst he is chained by Collectible Anima Sola icon.pngAnima Sola, when he deals no contact damage.

Interactions

  • Any self-damaging item: Self-damage occurs before enemy damage, making it almost impossible to lose Devil/Angel Room chances.
    • For self-damaging items that deals only half a heart damage (such as Collectible Kamikaze! icon.pngKamikaze!), before chapter 4, it will also reduce enemy damage to half a heart, similarly to Collectible The Wafer icon.pngThe Wafer.
  • Collectible Blank Card icon.pngBlank Card with VII - The ChariotVII - The Chariot / VII - The Chariot?VII - The Chariot?: Activate their respective effects without consuming it.
  • Collectible Blood Rights icon.pngBlood Rights: Triggers the effect on hit, at the cost of a full-heart of damage on the first hit and half-heart damage on subsequent hits in the same room.
  • Collectible Book of Shadows icon.pngBook of Shadows: Activates the item, giving Isaac the shield effect for 10 seconds.
  • Collectible Bursting Sack icon.pngBursting Sack: Even though the neutral spiders can't possibly hurt Isaac, the trinket still activates when contact is made with them.
  • Collectible Butter Bean icon.pngButter Bean / Collectible Wait What icon.pngWait What?: Isaac farts before being hit, knocking back enemies and projectiles.
  • Collectible Clear Rune icon.pngClear Rune with Rune of AlgizRune of Algiz / Blank RuneBlank Rune / Rune ShardRune Shard / Soul of JudasSoul of Judas: Activate their respective effects without consuming it.
  • Collectible Dark Arts icon.pngDark Arts: Unlike many other items on this list, Dark Arts can be used to negate damage more than once per room, making it an excellent defensive item to use with Panic Button. Note that this does not work while playing as Character Tainted Judas icon.pngTainted Judas.
  • Collectible Damocles icon.pngDamocles: Not recommended. Damocles will activate right before Isaac takes damage, guaranteeing Damocles will fall later in the run.
  • Collectible Dull Razor icon.pngDull Razor: Activates the item and gives Isaac invincibility frames before being hit. If combined with Collectible 9 Volt icon.png9 Volt or AAA BatteryAAA Battery, works every room, just like Holy Mantle. If combined with Collectible The Battery icon.pngThe Battery, Collectible Habit icon.pngHabit, and Collectible Car Battery icon.pngCar Battery it will make Isaac almost invincible.
  • Collectible Glowing Hourglass icon.pngGlowing Hourglass: Rewind time to the previous room.
  • Collectible Holy Mantle icon.pngHoly Mantle: Does not stop the trinket from activating.
    • Character The Lost icon.pngThe Lost can die this way should he carry self-damaging items at the time of the hit.
  • Collectible How to Jump icon.pngHow to Jump: Makes Isaac immune to contact and tear damage while moving.
  • Collectible IV Bag icon.pngIV Bag: Upon getting hit, activates the IV Bag instead, causing self-damage and producing money.
  • Collectible Kamikaze! icon.pngKamikaze!: Causes a highly-damaging explosion to occur every time Isaac is hit.
  • Collectible My Little Unicorn icon.pngMy Little Unicorn: Gives invulnerability and +0.28 speed for six seconds, removing the ability to shoot tears and replacing it with the ability to deal contact damage to enemies.
  • Collectible Razor Blade icon.pngRazor Blade: Isaac gains a damage boost every time he's hit, acting similarly to Red PatchRed Patch, at the cost of a full-heart of damage on the first hit and half-heart damage on subsequent hits in the same room.
  • Collectible Stitches icon.pngStitches: Isaac will teleport before damage is taken, making him much harder to hit.
  • Character Tainted Forgotten icon.pngTainted Forgotten: Triggers his active item whenever the body touches something that would damage the Character Tainted Soul icon.pngTainted Soul, regardless of damage taken.
  • Collectible Suplex! icon.pngSuplex!: As long as Suplex! is fully charged, damage can be dodged by the grab.
  • Collectible Telekinesis icon.pngTelekinesis: Automatically blocks any incoming shots, but the push is not strong enough to prevent contact damage.
  • Collectible The Gamekid icon.pngThe Gamekid: Turns the character into a Pac-Man-like creature for 6.5 seconds and provides invulnerability, inflicts fear on all enemies, removing the ability to shoot tears and replacing it with the ability to deal contact damage to enemies.
  • Collectible Unicorn Stump icon.pngUnicorn Stump: Gives invulnerability and +0.28 speed for six seconds, but removes the ability to shoot tears while the effect is active.
