Possible origin of the item's appearance

I believe the appearance of Vade Retro may be based on or inspired by the Church War Cross, which was created by the Episcopal Church War Commission during World War I for Episcopalian soldiers to take into battle. Apparently the cross was designed to avoid any sharp points to avoid possibly injuring the wearer during combat, and was made to resemble the Crusader's Cross. The cross was also apparently the first cross to be approved for use by the United States military. While there does not appear to be a confirmed connection between Vade Retro and the Church War Cross, this page is noticeably lacking any possible explanation for the item's appearance, and I have not yet seen any other theories. Still, I figured I should put forward this idea here first, rather than taking it upon myself to add this explanation to the trivia section out of nowhere. Thoughts?
