Keys are used to gain entry to many of the game's rooms, as well as open Locked Chest.pngLocked Chests and Key Blocks.

  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Booster Pack #5 added an electrical graphical effect to Charged Keys.
    • (in Repentance) Charged Keys start sparkling as soon as they spawn, helping players distinguish them from normal keys and prevent wasting charges.
  • Charged Keys may be based off of the story of Benjamin Franklin discovering electricity via tying a key to a kite during a lighting storm, thus drawing an electrical charge from it.
