(except in Rebirth)

Head of the Keeper is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth.

Effects

  • Isaac's tears become coins. Hitting an enemy with tears has a 5% chance to drop a Penny.pngPenny at the point of impact.
    • The chance is not affected by Luck.

Notes

  • Head of the Keeper has a 1% chance to drop from destroying normal Shopkeeper.pngShopkeepers.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) The only way of finding Head of the Keeper is from Shopkeeper.pngShopkeepers, using Spindown DiceSpindown Dice on Papa FlyPapa Fly, as a starting item with Character Eden icon.pngEden, or by using Death CertificateDeath Certificate.
  • Does not produce coins other than Pennies.
  • Hitting the front side of enemies such as the Knight.pngKnight will still produce Pennies, even though the enemy does not take damage. This can be exploited to produce an infinite amount of Pennies from a single enemy. This however doesn't work with lowered Host.pngHosts.
    • Enemies that spawn other enemies, Globin.pngGlobins, or enemies that regain health can also be farmed for infinite money.
  • (except in Repentance and Repentance+) Head of the Keeper does not work with (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Character The Forgotten icon.pngThe Forgotten but will work with (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Character The Soul icon.pngThe Soul.
  • When used against Boss Ultra Greed ingame.pngUltra Greed, the coins are spawned directly in front of him and will heal him very often.

Synergies

  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) BrimstoneBrimstone/ Character Azazel icon.pngAzazel/ Character Tainted Azazel icon.pngTainted Azazel/Tech XTech X: The laser is yellow and each tick has a chance to drop a penny.
  • Monstro's LungMonstro's Lung: Every tear in the burst of tears can spawn coins.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) Nuh Uh!Nuh Uh!: From Chapter 4 and beyond, any coins spawned will be from the loot table of Nuh Uh! instead, with an occasional harmless black fly spawning.
  • Sack HeadSack Head: Coins spawned from hitting enemies have a chance to become sacks.
  • Soy MilkSoy Milk: Due to the Soy Milk's high fire rate and low damage, enemies can be hit many more times than usual, resulting in a larger amount of coins dropping.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) TechnologyTechnology: The laser is yellow and has a chance to drop a penny upon damaging an enemy.
  • (except in Rebirth and Afterbirth) Technology ZeroTechnology Zero: Coin tears are connected via electricity. Beams of electricity can cause enemies to drop coins.
  • Technology 2Technology 2: Due to Technology 2's constant fire rate, enemies are hit many more times than usual, resulting in a higher likelihood of coins dropping.
  • (in Repentance and Repentance+) TrisagionTrisagion: Each tick that hits an enemy has a chance to spawn a penny.
