The Cellar is one of the environments in Chapter 1. It is unlocked after defeating each boss in the BasementBasement, including defeating the smallest twin first in Boss Gemini ingame.pngGemini's fight. It is not necessary to defeat Boss Steven ingame.pngSteven to unlock the Cellar. The theme of the Cellar is spiders and poop.

The Cellar's alternate floors are the BasementBasement and the (except in Rebirth)Burning BasementBurning Basement.

(in Repentance and Repentance+) After A Secret Exit A Secret Exit is unlocked, a locked door similar to the one leading to a Treasure RoomTreasure Room will appear in this floor's Boss RoomBoss Room upon defeating the boss leading to DownpourDownpour / DrossDross. Like a Treasure Room, this door requires a key to be unlocked. Unlike Angel RoomAngel Rooms and Devil RoomDevil Rooms, this door never disappears.

Notes

  • Unlocking the Cellar requires defeating every boss in the Basement. However, this does not require fighting them in the Basement. It is possible, for instance, to have defeated every single boss except for the Gurgling.pngGurglings, encounter them in the WombWomb, clear the room in which they are encountered, and successfully unlock the Cellar.

Trivia

In the original Binding of Isaac, Boss Gurdy Jr. ingame.pngGurdy Jr. could appear as a boss.

Music

  • The music for the cellar is titled Periculum.[1]
    • Periculum is Latin for "danger" or "risk", signifying how the Cellar is a step-up from the Basement.
